The Season of Advent prepares us for Christ's coming--both on Christmas Day and when we comes again in glory. This year, we will spend each week exploring a different way we can prepare ourselves. The post for each day will include a scripture, a song, a few brief questions to reflect upon, and a prayer.
Week 2 Reminder
This
week, our readings focus on "Repentance." The Hebrew word for "repent" תשובה (teshuva) means to return or turn back. It's Greek counterpart μετανοώ (metanoeó)
means to change one's mind or purpose--particularly when that change is
as a result of accepting God's will. For a longer description of
repentance, refer back to the reading, for Sunday, Dec. 4.
Scripture
Romans 6:12-14, 21-23
Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal bodies, so that you obey their desires. 13 No longer present your members to sin as instruments of unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and present your members to God as instruments of righteousness. 14 For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace...
21 So what fruit did you then gain from the things of which you now are ashamed? The end of those things is death. 22 But now that you have been freed from sin and enslaved to God, the fruit you have leads to sanctification, and the end is eternal life. 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (NRSVUE)

Questions
Paul teaches that since Christ’s grace has freed us from our slavery to sin, we should adopt holy lives that serve as an example to others.
- Do you feel sufficiently set free from your sins to become instruments of God’s righteousness?
- What influences do you still need Jesus to release you from?
- How can you make room for him to do so?
